Chilkoot River

In contrast to Skagway, Haines feels like a town people live in, and it is. Also connected by road to the outside world, the drive there is spectacular. In the late fall the Chilkat River is a congregation point for Eagles and the photo ops are fantastic. During the summer there are river rafting trips available. During the first week of August every year, the town host the Southeast Fair. It is very popular with the locals and filled with music and arts.

From Haines you can view Eagles along the Alaskan Highway untill late in the year. In the fall they gather along the Chilkat River in search of salmon. They are not the only one looking for salmon. At the Chilkoot Lake State Park you can spot these guys without a spotting scope.
